La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-In Sunscreen Milk Body & Face Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 60, Oxybenzone & Octinoxate Free, Oil-Free Sunscreen reviews

  • Probably the BEST sunscreen ever

A motorcycle instructor who works in the sun all day was RAVING about this sunscreen, so I bought it. I’m a ginger and I got sunburnt today because I thought I could go out in the garden for 10 minutes without sunscreen… I should have put on my La Roche-Posay! This stuff is better than Neutrogena (better be, for that price) and goes on thick at first, feeling a bit more like the Neutrogena 100SPF even though this is rated at 60SPF. Then it “melts in” and is quite comfortable and I forget I’m wearing it. I use it on my face, too! It feels more like wearing a bit of lotion / moisturizing cream. It also works REALLY well.

MOST IMPORTANTLY it does NOT smell like sunscreen. It has a “plastic” smell to it which is a little odd at first, but that smell pretty much vanishes after 15-20 minutes. It’s not like other sunscreens where I am aware I have sunscreen on ALL DAY and I can’t wait to take a shower.

So, my sunscreen collection looks like this:

Neutrogena spray cans + sunscreen lotions for when I’m not feeling fancy enough for a $30 sunscreen, but want something I trust.
Trader Joe’s 6.99 spray sunscreen. It’s oily, but it WORKS and is CHEAP.
La Roche-Posay: for going on sun-filled dates or BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY I DESERVE IT.

  • Feels like the least greasy product out there.

Excellent, I have fair skin and have had several skin cancers. I am always looking or improved sunscreen options, so I try a lot of different products. This is the best I have found so far. The screen works very well. I can be out for hours and not worry about getting burned. There are a number of good spf options out there, but what sets this apart is how it feels. This is the least greasy product that I have used. So if it feels “less bad” you use it more. That is not to say that there no lotion feeling, there is, this is just the best I have discovered. I have not tried it while swimming so I can not attest to its efficacy.
It also helps confirm how good the sunscreen works, based on this being the highest rated product by Consumers Report. It scored a perfect 100. That’s how I found it. The only negative is the cost. It’s expensive for the spf, however I feel it worthy of consideration because of how it feels. I have reordered. — Sami reviewed

  • excellent protection, no residue

Excellent protection. I have very fair sensitive skin and just spent 8 days on a boat, usually only applying this once each morning on face and body, and have absolutely no sunburn, barely even a tan. I was super impressed with how long it protected my skin without diligent application throughout the rest of the day. I use high end cosmetics and skin care products, including other very expensive sunscreens, and found this sunscreen to be the most effective with no goopy, chalky, or greasy residue. I also appreciate that it has no strong fragrance or chemical odor, unlike most other sunscreens that I’ve tried. I’ve found a keeper. — michael smith reviewed

  • Everyday Product

I was a little nervous to try this product because I haven’t had the best of luck with face sunscreens other than at the beach. I have very fair skin, but all other sunscreens made me breakout. I use this sunscreen everyday and have not broken out at all. I do not even have to use a moisturizer when I wear this, which is an added bonus. — AC reviewed

  • The added bonus of reducing the probability of skin cancer is a nice cherry on top

I am a 30 year old male who has used sunscreen sporadically throughout my life. About two years ago I started wearing this every day, religiously. I apply it once in the morning, right before I leave the house, and once at around noon. Remembering to apply is difficult, so I’ve purchased quite a few tubes to keep in all of the places I spend most of my time: my car, desk at my office, both bathrooms, and backpack. I began wearing sunscreen purely for cosmetic reasons. The added bonus of reducing the probability of skin cancer is a nice cherry on top, but I often think that the additives in cosmetics, like this very sunscreen, are probably toxic and carcinogenic to some extent. (I am professionally a statistician, and my fiancee is a biologist who studies skin – I have both a healthy appreciation and skepticism of science). If you’re very light skinned like I am, do be sure to supplement with vitamin D to make up for wearing so much sunscreen. Seriously, do it, it’s like one of only a few vitamins you can take that WILL actually improve your health. Especially if you spend most of your day indoors or wear any sort of face coverings consistently.

My results have been fantastic. I started noticing a decrease in fine lines and wrinkles about three or four months in of twice daily use. Two years in, I am constantly getting comments on how young I look by strangers. A male cashier at a corner store recently commented on how young I look. Many of my friends think I’m about 25-26. These are welcomed compliments since I’ve never received any like them at any point in my life. Lines that have not disappeared are lines that are caused by repetitious use of facial muscles. I smile hugely and constantly, so my smile lines around my mouth and eyes have remained and gotten a little deeper due to use and the passage of time (and probably because I’m smiling and laughing more than ever).

I have huge pores and acne-prone, oily skin, so I’m weary of products that make me break out. I had to through away an expensive, low-additive, non-toxic moisturizer recently due to this issue. Despite how thick and greasy feeling this sunscreen is, it does not make me break out. Washing my pillow regularly has done more for me than anything else recently regarding my occasional outbreaks. Despite this, my fiancee does not like this sunscreen. I’m in the "if you can’t feel it, it probably isn’t doing anything" camp, so I don’t mind it.

The one big negative is that it stains anything you get it on, so be mindful if you’re applying it around your neck. — Bookworm reviewed

  • This is by far her favorite sunscreen and we have tried a lot

I purchased this product after seeing it was rated top by consumer reports. My daughter had skin cancer at an early age and I want to do everything I can to protect her from further issues. She is an active beach volleyball player therefore is outside a lot. She is only 15 so I wanted something that was user friendly, lasts a long time, has a pleasant smell and doesn’t get in her eyes when she sweats. This is by far her favorite sunscreen and we have tried a lot. It is not thick or slimy and it just melts right in to her skin and doesn’t run. My husband who plays softball even uses it now and he said it’s the only one he’s ever tried that didn’t get in his eyes. This is our family go to product now. — Rory reviewed

  • Best out there

    I love it
Rated best by Consumer Reports and my dermatologist sells it in his office. Highly recommend this product.

  • Perfect skincare starts with this!

This is by far, my favorite sunscreen. I have been using this brand daily for years with no issues whatsoever. I use this and their face primer and never get burned. No scent, goes on light and quick with no stickiness. Another good thing is because it’s so light, it doesn’t settle on your skin. No white streaks in any creases! Everyone should be using sunscreen every day, and this is the best. — gawilhelm reviewed

  • Excellent Comfort, excellent protection

This does what it says it will do — provide excellent protection without leaving you with an oily or pasty feeling. It is not fully invisible and you know you are wearing it, but it is far and away better feeling than an y other product I’ve tried, from oils to lotions to sticks. — BiddyGirl reviewed

  • The Proof is in the Pudding

I applied this first thing in the morning, then proceeded to work outside, all day (about 6 hours), in the blazing heat and bright NC sun. Absolutely no shade, lots of sweat, and wiping at my face throughout the day. Never reapplied it once. And guess what? It kept my very fair, fragile skin protected. Not a trace of sun exposure was visible on my face that evening or the next day. Also, my skin is very sensitive and prone to breaking out, but I had no issues whatsoever. This stuff is the real deal, folks! — WHL Dad reviewed

  • You can trust this product to work.

My mom has a neurological disease, and if she gets burned, she will have horrible itching for weeks afterward.
I also experienced horrible, whole body joint pain when I had my last sunburn. My doctor could not tell me why a sunburn would cause this, but nonetheless, I am extremely careful after that happened.
I have used other sunscreens that did not work very well.
So, I was very worried about our trip to Hawaii, where the sun is more damaging compared to where I live in Oregon.
We used this as directed, re-applying as instructed.
We were in the sun all day, every say for 5 days.
We came back tanned, but not burnt.
I am very grateful for this product and I will use it from now on!
This does sting the eyes after application when you are out in the heat, sweating. So, I would urge you to buy the face sun screen from this same product line which is just as protective and does not sting the eyes at all. — Diane reviewed

  • Very Effective Sunblocker

This is very good sunscreen. Bought for a trip to the Caribbean. It performed well and was a really good sunblocker in fact the best I have ever used.
Contains UV-A and UV-B protection. It’s is a bit milky (chalky) on your skin at first but blends in after 10 full minutes. — Diane reviewed

  • High quality sunscreen for face and body

I’ve been using this product for years – recommended by my aesthetician and dermatologist. I use it on my face, hands and neck. Great for dry skin – I don’t use a moisturizer with this product. Highly recommend this and other La Roche=Posay skin products , I’ve used many other of this company’s products. Good quality. — M. Nelson reviewed

  • Favorite sunscreen!

My favorite sunscreen. Sinks into my skin well and it’s not too greasy. It’s thick enough to be used on its own as a moisturizer/ sunscreen in the summer months and layers well with other moisturizers/ make up. It doesn’t ball up and it doesn’t leave a white cast. It’s also fragrance free and doesn’t have the typical sunscreen scent. — Kelly reviewed

  • No wonder it was rated as #1 by the consumer product magazine.

My granddaughter is very light skinned, and we used this product in the high mountain of Colorado, and never received a sunburn. We are very, very pleased with the results of this product. We found out about this product through one of the consumer magazines rating it as the top sunscreen product out on the market. It’s not greasy or leaves any residue on your clothing. This will be the only product that we use from this point on. — Amanda reviewed

  • Changing my review – I am pleased with this product

This arrived in a box whose lid was crushed back closed and then had semi-opened again. There was a small amount of product on the lid, which made me question if it had been used. However, since I’ve been using it myself, I realize if this had been used at all there would have been a whole lot more product on the inside lid as it’s very liquid and you have to be careful. Anyway, I’m satisfied this was un-used when I received it. The sunscreen itself is wonderful. It does melt into the skin very quickly with no white caste on the skin. I love how light it is and that it is 60 spf. A little bit goes a long way, so even with this being somewhat more expensive than the Neutrogenia stick I’d been using, IMO it’s a better sunscreen and the tube lasts so long it works out expense-wise. There is no greasy residue. — Kato reviewed

  • Top protection, going off the Consumer Reports list

I bought a few of the top sunblocks from the Consumer Reports list from this year (2019).
This one is top of the list and tested at 100% and is great. Double checked price at Target and they tend to charge $41 for it (large tube – 16 ounce).
So it is top notch protection, and also top price.
However, no breakouts, which is nice if you care. I care enough for this to matter, though frankly I’ll take zits over cancer. I’ve put it on my face and neck for pool deck (2 hours, no burn, reapplying) and running (under 1 hour, sweaty, mid afternoon, summer sun in June and July) and avoided burns entirely.

Seems to have decent moisturizing effects and it’s not super oily/greasy, and actually does have a good melt-in feel. I also tried the smaller zinc-oxide based mineral milk melt-in from LaRoche Posay, but found the zinc’s whiteness wouldn’t disappear, leaving me somewhat purple looking. Not a good look at the office. And i think it was even more expensive per ounce.

The runners up, just behind this one for protection:
Also of great value on that list (and available here on Amazon) is Coppertone Ultra Guard Sunscreen 70, which is substantially cheaper but we use it mainly for shoulders downwards.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TKOHMM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Walmart Equate is even better value (half the price, only comes in 16 ounces) and is in a tie with this one.

And for kids’ sunsticks (like the glue stick variety), Target brand “Up” 55 SPF for kids tops the list. — Amazon Customer reviewed

  • Works great. Not meant for sweaty, or anything wet.

This is a fall/winter sunblock. And it is best for face and neck, not only due to the price, but because it is superior protection, and your face and neck will have little to no contact with other stuff that could rub it off..

This is a top notch sunblock I been wearing off and on for years. But I still prefer the Japanese sunblocks, as they are almost like nothing is there, and has superior UVA protection like this, but stronger in sweat /humid weather than this.

Overall 5/5 because this is great all around. And you should cherish having a bottle of possible the best or one of the best UVA blocking chemicals known to man. — PC reviewed

  • Works, with no white residue while swimming.

I liked the way this spread onto my skin, leaving little trace except a tiny feeling of moisture. I used it daily in Mexico and came home with barely a tan, sigh.
I always put sunscreen on in the morning right after washing my face, giving it time to soak in. I swam several times a day in the pool, as well as in the ocean, and I reapplied it to my face, neck, arms legs etc after a swim or two. My skin was not wet when I put it on again though, can’t say how that works. I spent about 5 hours a day in the sun with no issues except the top of my feet got a tiny bit red the first day. I either forgot to reapply it there or my flip flops rubbed it off. I was more careful after that and had no repeats.

I used a different sunscreen for snorkeling, one that was reef safe (basically titanium dioxide). — L. Leblanc reviewed

  • I will purchase again

I have medium dark brown skin and this is a fantastic sunscreen for not leaving a white cast. It does a great job at preventing and sun damage (i.e. a tan or sunburn). This sunscreen doesn’t burn my eyes or cause me to break out if I sleep with it on. As long as you are not using more than the recommended amount of sunscreen (I think it is 1 teaspoon) then it shouldn’t be greasy. I only have a white or purple cast with this sunscreen, if I apply too much, or if I apply it when my skin is still wet. So that means that my skin has to be dry after I apply my moisturizer or after I get out of the shower. — practical reviewed

  • GREAT FIND!!!!!

I did A google search for “best sunscreen for tattoos” and this product came up. There weren’t too many reviewers with people with tattoos, but I did Read many reviews from motorcycle owners who swear by the product. I also Read one women’s review about having acne prone skins and “rough” skin. I suffer From cystic acne and moisturizer is super important for my skin. I’ve noticed a difference after using twice daily for the last two weeks. My skin is so soft! The profit isn’t oily and greasy like SPF. It also doesn’t smell like SPF. I recently Used on my tattoos (on legs) and you can see the tan lines from where I applied The product and where my tattoos were protected. This is a wonderful product! — Amazon Customer reviewed

  • The only sunscreen I’ve found that keeps me from burning while swimming laps.

It’s expensive but it’s your skin so it’s worth the price. I’m fair skinned and spend an hour every day in a pool outside swimming and this is the only sunscreen where I don’t burn. I ran out recently and had to use Coppertone broad spectrum 50 spf and I burned within twenty minutes of getting in the pool. I bought the La Roche face sunscreen as well and it feels much nicer to wear on your face than this sunscreen and lasts a lot longer. This is one of the few sunscreens on the US market that is broad spectrum that actually works for me. You want to look for a broad spectrum and one that has a 30 spf, anything more doesn’t add much. This brand only seems to have spf 60. — Amazon Customer reviewed

  • Consumer Report 100 rating is well deserved

I used as directed on trips to the Caribbean and the Holy Land. Not a single burn and only mild redness on my shoulders. (Obviously operator error)
This in comparison to my travel companions who either used different sunscreen or balked at using any at all; they suffered burns of various severity.
It was easy to apply and didn’t feel sticky. — K. Clark reviewed

  • Skin looks amazing!

I recently decided to start wearing sunscreen daily, and started looking for one to use. This was the first purchase i made and I am glad it was this product. I use this every morning and let it soak in for 10-15 min before applying any other makeup. Most of the time I use a foundation powder or translucent setting powder over it so it stays all day. I never feel greasy after it soaks in and my skin looks amazing! Havent used through the summer yet, so I will be interested to see if it looks oily in the summer or not. The only complaint I have is that the applicator tip gets messy in the cap. — Amazon Customer reviewed

  • Well worth the money. Great protectant

I love this sunscreen. Great protection in the Florida sun. Rubs in quickly and isn’t greasy. My whole family used it on face and body with no issues at Busch Gardens and other amusement parks. My fair headed 20 month old grandson didn’t catch a burn and that was so important to me! — Michelle wisdo reviewed

  • Yes! It’s a great product!

Being very fair with light eyes I spent my younger years trying to get a tan; I paid for it with skin cancer on my face :-(. My dermatologist tried to sell me his sunscreen at a HUGE price; although this brand is not cheap by any means, this was his & my surgeons recommendation. I use it every single day. It’s not greasy or heavy & does not feel like sunscreen at all. It gets absorbed pretty quickly. No break outs as I’ve got really sensitive skin & im confident it’s doing it’s job. I live in South FL so I can’t get away from the sun but it’s actually doing a great job keeping my skin "Northern white" in blazing daily sun. Fabulous product. — Lola reviewed

  • WELL WORTH THE PRICE!

Goes on smoothly and easily and well protects my skin better than any other sunscreen. Highly recommended! — Chesca56 reviewed

  • Pretty good and I will probably buy it again.

I have been using this product for about 2 months now and find myself overall pleased with it. It is a bit greasy, so if you have oily skin it might not be the best, I find that I can skip my moisturizer and just use this when I go out.

pros:good protection, doubles as a moisturizer, absorbs pretty fast

cons:really irritates the eyes and nose if you get any in your eyes or nostrils, not as good on cold days

the “melt-n” absorption seems to be heat dependent. On chilly days it is a very thick cream and takes quite a long time to fully absorb in, leaving a bit residue on my face. But on hotter days it absorbs quickly and leaves a light shiny finish on my skin, so it’s definitely not a matte finish. — Rita Cee reviewed

  • Good for sensitive skin

My doc recommended this. I have sensitive skin and live in AZ. This product is amazing, not greasey, and stays for a long time. I would recommend this for people with sensitive skin. — Thivus reviewed

  • PLE sufferer

Suffering from PLE for 10 years. Brought this bad boy to Greece for 2 weeks. I finally got some color. I was adamant about reapplying INSTEAD of coming back paler than when i left. Smooth, nonstick finish. I still took precautions, as always, to avoid the sun but when it was unavoidable i did not have a breakout. Maybe 1 bump… I’ll take it! — Amazon Customer reviewed
