Elta MD UV Sport Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Full Body Sunscreen reviews

  • Best sunscreen for darker skin/People of Color. No White Cast No WHITE CAST AT ALL!

I’m a die hard user of sunscreen but as an African American woman most Physical sunscreens give a horrible white cast either alone or in combination with foundation/powder. I’ve tried 100% chemical sunscreen and find them too greasy or broke me out. My dermatologist recommended EltaMD and I will never use anything else.

I like that this sunscreen is SPF 50, that it has no white cast on my darker skin and that it is water-resistant. An added bonus is that there is no stinging if I rub my eyes after application. This is my HOLY GRAIL sunscreen. EltaMD please never discontinue this product or change the formula!

I use about a pea size amount which is all you need for your face and neck. I rub it on my face and neck in an upward fashion and within seconds it is absorbed. Initially there is a shine to my face, but that is gone within a minute or so. No white cast at all and it plays nice with my other face products. I don’t have any problem layering this with my primer, foundation and/or pressed powder. I apply my sunscreen first, then my primer, them my foundation or powder.

I wear sunscreen daily, I never leave the house without it and after talking with others, I wear it when I’m in front of my laptop screen for long periods of time.

I hope this review helped you and thanks for reaading! — Dee reviewed

  • Easy does it with this or any product change on your skin.

I had this product recommended to me by my dermatologist. It was about being non greasy and a very good daily sun screen. I use this EVERY day. I small amount goes a long way. I use about the size of a dime in the palm of my hand.

I have also ordered the tinted cream that this product is available in, as well. I sent it back because it was greasy and the tint looked retched on my face. Never put the sun screen around your eyes and certainly do not apply moisturizer or sun screen and expect your eye makeup to stay put.
I wear a very gentle sunscreen around my eyes and only if I’m going to be on the water for some time.

Barrier cream. You can read a review that I wrote sometime ago regarding the barrier cream.
I was not thrilled with the cream.

Then, I spoke to my plastic surgeon about the line after my face lift. What I found out is most of us are using the product incorrectly.
The barrier cream was not designed to be used alone.
Here’s what was recommended to me.
    1. Clean your face ( I use the Elta cream cleanser twice a day.). Pat, do not rub your face dry.
    2. Dispense just one pump of the Barrier cream.
Place a small amount on your neck. I would describe a small amount to be about the size of half your small finger nail. Move the product gently all over you neck area and even back under your earlobes, Than place the same amount on each cheek and on your forehead. Gently rub the product in. You’ll notice that the product starts to liquify as you move it around your face.
    2. Add a dab of the 50 sunscreen. Dab would be about the size of your index finger nail. Put the sunscreen in all the same places you applied the Barrier product. Your face will not absorb more than it needs. The rest stays on your face and simply looks and feels greasy.
    3. Now apply, again using the same index finger nail amount, of the moisturized that you normally use daily, on top of the barrier cream and the sun screen.
    4. Repeat this same procedure at night. Apply either your day time moisturizer again or use the same amount of night cream in the process. In the evening is when you will want to apply the eye repair and an evening eye cream.

The secret? Most of us have been applying way too much of these products. I have Irish skin. Too much of anything sends my skin into over drive!
    5. Let it be absorbed. I like to dry my hair here.
    6. Now, go about applying your make up.
    7. The same rule regarding quantity of liquid/ powder/ cream base makeup applies. Use the size of your index finger nail of the base. What you’ll find, is that with the three products you applied earlier, your makeup will spread and blend very easily. You’ll need less of everything.

I’ve been using this process for several years. I was a Sun baby until I hit 40. Never used a sun screen.
Now I’m 70. My face has paid the price of my foolish youth.
Hang with these products. Limit your amounts, give your skin time to adapt.
I will try to load a picture I took last week of my 70 yr old face. You judge for yourself. My handsome brother is in the picture with me. He is 72. — Dee reviewed

  • OMG The Best Sunscreen EVER !!!!!

OMG I have the most sensitive skin and can’t wear anything and my eyes get so irritated I have blurry vision and tearing so bad and burning for days after just one application, even childrens sunblock didn’t help…until I read the reviews and said "what do I have to lose"…well Please believe me that it was money well spent….I will be wearing this forever!! It’s that great…I applied it and even applied it around my eyes and waiting for the usual reaction of irritated, watery, burning eyes…..what !! No burning…..I’m sold….and I even applied my make up and shadow and mascara…and still no burning….the best part is it dried Matt but not dry and does not give you the gray ash look to your skin….buy this it’s worth every penny…..you won’t be disappointed. — MniceAmazon Customer reviewed

  • Simply the Best!

I researched the heck out of sun block lotions before trying this and the other top products on the market. EltaMD is clearly the best of the best. I have very fair skin and I’m in the Sun all day in Southern California. After 3 years of use I’ve never once gotten sunburn at all. In addition, it goes on much easier than the other products that have this level of protection. It’s not near as thick and goes clear very quickly. The amazing part for me is that with using this product almost everyday, it last a really long time (4-6 months). So price is good based on how long it lasts and that it does it’s job really well. I used to pay $45 for the 7oz. Now it’s often in the high $20’s or low $30’s.

I only apply it once in the morning and never again all day running around. On tropical vacations it stays on great in the water as well. I have fairly sensitive skin, but this has never caused me to breakout or have any irritation issues.

Just an FYI… I do not work for the seller or manufacturer and I’m not being paid for my review. I just like the stuff. It works! — Lady Cinnamon reviewed

  • High quality, great product, EXCESSIVE PRICE INCREASE

This spf 50 is the best I’ve tried, and I try many lotions/ sunscreens. (Dr. Obagi is just at good but pricey). I’m writing this review in May 2017- about this May 2015 purchase. The product itself is amazing and does not leave your skin looking white or blue, like some products which contain zinc oxide/titanium dioxide; however the price has DRASTICALLY increased and I’m very disappointed. I paid $28.20 for this 7 oz bottle in 2015 and just reluctantly purchased it in 2017 for $48.50. I’ve emailed Elta MD but have not heard back 3-5 days later. Elta MD is high quality but the price increases of all their products are excessive. I use many of their lotions and love them all. I’m hoping more men/women express dissatisfaction with regard to the price increases in hopes this will change. — Startrout reviewed

  • Everyday sunscreen great for face and neck

I’m pleasantly surprised by this. I live in San Diego, and the cross we bear living in paradise is wearing sunscreen every day. I’ve been wearing the Elta spf 45 for faces, which I like. But, I found it made my skin a little whitish, and as it didn’t have staying power, I wasn’t thrilled with that tradeoff. I hesitated to buy this, but it’s working well as a face sunscreen. It starts off greasy-ish on your skin, but that goes away after a bit. I find that if I dust on just bit of face powder (I hate wearing makeup), it looks really natural. It has good coverage. — Taylors reviewed

  • Highly recommended

Even though it’s a little greasy well after application, this UV Sport formula protects like no other I’ve ever used. I tried switching to the non-greasy UV Shield and got a tan with that one. Only UV Sport can protect you for hours, and even though my dermatologist said to reapply every 2 hours, there have been sweltering hot summer days where I was outside gardening or working and never reapplied all day, and this stuff still protected me. Highly recommended. — MMc reviewed

  • Needed good sun screen to use while jogging

Needed good sun screen to use while jogging. I sweat a lot from my forehead and needed something that would come off and sting my eyes. This product has been awesome. Dosnt come off. It dosnt have that gross sun screen smell. I have rosacea which makes my face very sensitive to most products. This sunscreen is the only brand I’d use. — ParisSunset reviewed

  • Great Product

I have been using EltaMD since the summer and very pleased with it. It came as a recommendation from my Dermatologist. She explained the benefits of the ingredients that this has such as the Zinc Oxide. This will give you proper protection from the sun. I have been using it while active and sweaty and not having any issue with burning in my eyes. It smells good and does not have a greasy feel to it. I highly recommend this sunscreen if you want to properly protect your skin. — Rodrigo Rivera reviewed

  • Works better than anything else I’ve ever tried.

My dermatologist recommended I use this sun block because I am super pale and I got REALLY burned at the beach a few years back. I do a lot of theme parking here in Orlando, and using this sunblock (applying just once in the morning), I never burn. I will notice a little darkening after a full day, but it’s barely noticeable. I highly recommend this sunblock. (Picture included to show exactly how pale I am) — Sid Scheck reviewed

  • The BEST!

My holy grail of sunscreens! This delivers everything I need in a sunscreen. It does not stain clothing. It is fragrance-free. It does not irritate my super-sensitive skin. It disappears on my skin, no heavy, white grease. Blends right in. It stays on. I am a very active person who is frequently outdoors and I sweat a LOT. I am also a very pale redhead and everyone knows what happens to redheads in the sun.
I can’t say enough good things about this stuff, other than the price tag is pretty hefty, but it’s worth it. — M G Scott reviewed

  • we fortunately landed on EltaMD SPF 50

My son is a year-round swimmer and practices in the afternoon sun for more than 2 hours a day, in addition to 4 morning practices and frequent weekend swim meets. Naturally, sunscreen is a big part of his daily routine. After using and ditching many, many sunscreens over the years, we fortunately landed on EltaMD SPF 50. This is his favorite, and he would not use any other brands.

The consistency allows it to spread easily. It’s slightly oily and white when applied, but after a few minutes it absorbs well, no longer white or oily.

It keeps him from sun burn especially during swim meets where he is in the sun for a whole day. — M G Scott reviewed

  • Comfortable to use on face, not greasy or oily

I was diagnosed with melanoma recently (at age 35) which is likely due to my years of recreational sun exposure with inadequate use of sunscreen. I’ve never been a sunbather or used tanning beds. I am now a long distance runner and spend hours running in the sun and have struggled to find something to use on my face that doesn’t feel heavy or like I’ve got a layer of plastic wrap on my face, and that lasts longer than my usual face lotion with SPF that is not water/sweat proof. Although this product is expensive, it is very comfortable to wear on your face/neck/ears. It does not feel greasy. It does have a cloying sweet scent, but I’ll take that over the greasy feel of the sunscreen that I use on the rest of my body. The bottle is bigger than what I thought I was getting but I’ll still stick to using this just on my face and the cheaper stuff on the rest of my body. — Amazon Customer reviewed

  • Best summer sunscreen and I won’t go to the beach without it

I don’t trust anything else on my face during the summer. I used to use the Chinese biore ++++ sunblock but I almost felt like it was bleaching my skin a little? I was unnaturally pale and the rest of my body was tan. But man that stuff WORKS and doesn’t come off so if that’s what you need, check that out.

With this, I don’t get burned but i also don’t look like a ghost in the summer. Just apply regularly. I personally prefer it to the biore. — HeatherMT reviewed

  • Acne Free!!!

I’ve been using his sunscreen for years now, my dermatologist and esthetician both recommended this line of products and I love them. The sun screen doesn’t smell as strong as most sun screens and it doesn’t feel heavy on the face. It’s very light and if you suffer from acne like I do then this is the right one for you, I use the sport because I feel it keeps my face protected for longer without re-application. The best part is that it doesn’t clog your pores. I wear this on a daily basis and my skin appearance has improved over all. — Jenny reviewed

  • Get it! What are you waiting for?

I have used EltaMD sunscreen products for many years and been happy with the sun protection they offer! I have still have problems with pores clogging, but NOT with EltaMD sunscreens. The SPF 50 has a slight “sun lotion” smell when first applied, but dissipates fairly quickly (and really more in your “space” rather than near by people smelling it). This lotion applys without streaks, doesn’t feel sticky, doesn’t stain clothes and keeps me safe on a sunny day. I haven’t tested the water-resistant portion … but their other products with the same claim have been stellar in protection. If course you still need to reapply according to their instructions. — Perla reviewed

  • Does the job!

This sunscreen kept me sunburn free while I was deployed in Africa. I used it for times I was spending long hours outside and for my 5k runs. UV index was normally 10-13 during my stay there. I never once got sun burnt when using this product! And trust me, I have seen people get really bad burns out there.

It also held well in the humid climate and during my long runs. I am really happy with this product and will continue to use it now that I am back home. — Georgia Gardener reviewed

  • This sunscreen makes my face look great in photos!

My favorite thing about this sunscreen, in addition to the invisible zinc oxide, is that it makes my skin look amazing in photos. Usually it’s the opposite with sunscreens that have mineral content. I would wear this even if I didn’t need a sunscreen. I put it on my face and neck daily. It’s a little pricey so I use less expensive stuff elsewhere. I also like that it is scent-free and never stings my eyes. (I don’t usually leave reviews.) — Wolfey27 reviewed

  • great quality!

This product was recommended as a safe product by an author who wrote a book about women’s fertility and egg quality. This product contains no harmful chemicals and is safe to use for women who are trying to conceive or conserve fertility in general. The product is very easy to apply and protected us from sun during our Hawaii trip. It does not feel greasy or sticky. It gives us this clean feel. Most importantly, you know it’s safe to apply on your skin and your body is not absorbing harmful chemicals like other brands on the market. I highly recommend to anyone for its safety. — D.D. reviewed

  • I really like this product.

My esthetician recommended it. I accidentally ordered the body version while shopping for the face version but I used it on my face, anyway with no breakouts. I also used it on my body and now it’s all gone. I have many unfinished tubes of sunscreen that I stopped using because I broke out or the consistency wasn’t comfortable. But this has now gone up $5 from the last time I bought it. I’m watching you, Elta. — mimibob reviewed

  • Great Alternative to Chemical sunscreens.

I bought this product after tearing up with some of the other chemical sunscreens. This product worked like a charm. I used it on my face and had no such issues. It spreads pretty well and a small amount will be enough for your whole face. It seemed clear enough on application to me as well.

I use this just for my face to make it last. But it lasted a week at the beach for 4 people and still has plenty left. Good sun protection too; I usually peel on my nose at the very least and didn’t get any of that this year. — J. M. Tatum reviewed

  • Nice sunscreen. Not super greasy.

For an effective sunscreen, this isn’t super greasy. To put it on a spectrum, I rate is as less greasy than Neutrogena, but more than Olay regenerist 30SPF serum. I wear this daily along with the Olay serum. They seem to work well together and have complementary ingredients. — J. M. Tatum reviewed

  • Excellent product

When I asked my dermatologist what she used for sun protection, she told me EltaMD Sport Sunscreen. I ordered a tube, and like the protection it provides. I’ve ordered more because I don’t want to run out. My orders have come quickly. I wish the sport sunscreen came in a larger size. I have also ordered the facial sunscreen from EltaMD. It, too, is an excellent product and doesn’t get in my eyes the way other sunscreens do. — DesignGirl reviewed

  • Washes off easily. Love this and will continue to purchase

Stumbled across this brand while researching for SPF that won’t cause acne or have a heinous smell. This meets all my expectations. Light, dissolves quickly, dries clear, can wear under makeup without greasy appearance, and is long lasting throughout the day. It doesn’t clump or chunk up or leave a chalky-look if you emerge in water. If you get it on your eyelashes by mistake, it will sting a little, but that is to be expected. Washes off easily. Love this and will continue to purchase, forever! — Ellie reviewed

  • This is quality sunscreen and worth the money.

This sunscreen is great for two reasons: 1) it includes both chemical and physical blockers for UVA & UVB and 2) they’ve figured out how to get the physical blockers to rub in. This was always the problem in the past — if you put zinc oxide (or something like it) on, you wound up with a white film Not with this product. I love it, and you don’t find those two qualities in almost any mainstream sunscreens. Your skin is definitely worth the splurge. — tiff22 reviewed

  • Won’t use anything besides EltaMD sunscreens

I have been using this brand of sunscreen for several years and buy repeatedly! I have very sensitive skin (fair complexion & red Hair). I have no irritation or negative reactions to the ingredients in the EltaMD products. Coverage and sun protection is great and I re-apply after approx 90 mins of exposure. Their products for “sports”, the ones that are resistant to perspiration are great as well. I’ve also used on my red-headed, fair skinned son for years without any skin irritations. Some of their products may appear a little Pale (not white) since they contain Zinc. — Brendan G. reviewed

  • It Only Takes A Small Amount!

I really like this product! Being a woman of color I have malasma, which is something similar to hyperpigmentation, but to me, worse. So my dermatologist being a person of color, recommended this product. I bought the regular and the sport sun screen. I prefer the sports UV because it’s a little lighter In weight or thinner. All you need is a very small amount. I mix mine with my daily moisturizer, Vit C, a peptide, allow to completely dry, apply makeup if you wear it, and poof I’m out! If you have a white film you’re used too much! So YEAH it works for ME! Don’t forget to take it to the pool with you to reapply. — barry owens reviewed

  • It works!!

This was recommended by my dermatologist. It’s great!! We’ve been on 3 trips this year where we knew we would be outside in the sun a lot. We used the sunscreen, and despite being out in direct sun 8+ hours each time, we did not get sunburned at all!! All that happened is that we got a little browned. In fact, I missed a spot on my leg at a day at the beach. That spot is the only place that got sunburned. No where else where the sunscreen was put on. Highly recommend! — LEENA reviewed

  • Answer to the acne prone skin prayer

I have bought this product over and over. I searched for years for a sunscreen that wouldn’t cause me to breakout like a 16 year old kids going through puberty and I finally found EltaMD. I am extremely fair skinned and love being out in the sun but burn quite easily. Since finding this product I don’t think I have had a sunburn. We spend a week on a houseboat each year and I apply this every couple of hours and my friends and family are amazed that I come back just as "pale" as when I left…I consider that a compliment :-). The only downside that I have seen with this product is simple to overcome. It is hard to wash off. I have found that I simply have to lather twice to get it off. It doesn’t cause discoloring of your cloths and doesn’t have a strong smell. — Pam Webb reviewed

  • Canister defected

This product is great protection. Not smooth to put on though. Note that the last two canisters came defected, the air pump does not work and the hole in the bottom leaks the product. Amazon did refund me but I need to use this sunscreen because of previous skin cancer , the manufacturer said it has a false bottom that must have come dislodged during shipping. I do nit believe that, I have been buying this fir 4 yrs , shipped and never had a problem. Then get 2 in 6 wks and both leak and do not work — Scuba Pharm reviewed
